Hey everyone! I'm planning to build a 12x16 deck in my backyard. I need a cordless screwdriver for driving deck screws, maybe some pilot holes. Budget is around $150 for the tool and a couple batteries. I'm a beginner but I want something that'll last. Any recommendations? Thanks!

For deck building, I'd steer clear of compact screwdrivers - you need torque and runtime. I've restored a few decks with my old DeWalt DCF680, but the newer 12V max screwdrivers are surprisingly good. However, at $150 you might be better off with a 20V drill/driver combo. Look at the DeWalt 12V screwdriver (DCF601) if you want dedicated, or a Makita 18V drill for versatility. Don't forget a good bit set!

Dude, go with the DeWalt DCF887 impact driver! It's a beast for deck screws. I built my entire shed with it, no predrilling needed. It's a bit over $150 with battery, but totally worth it. Pair it with a 20V XR battery and you're golden. Just watch out for cam-out if you're using Phillips - get square drive screws instead.

I gotta agree with Dan on the impact driver - it's the way to go for decking. But if you're set on a screwdriver style, I've had good luck with the Bosch PS31-2A. It's 12V, compact, and has a clutch so you don't strip screws. For $150 you can get it with two batteries. Just don't expect it to drive 3" screws all day without a break. For a deck, I'd still recommend an impact driver for speed.

Thanks for all the advice! I think I'll go with the DeWalt impact driver since it seems like the most versatile. I'll pick up some square drive screws too. Appreciate the help!
