Hey everyone! I'm planning to build a 12x16 deck this spring. I've got the lumber and plans, but I need to pick up some decent screwdrivers. I'll be driving a ton of deck screws, probably 3-inch ones. I'm thinking about a cordless impact driver, but I've also heard good things about spiral ratcheting hand drivers for speed. What would you pros recommend? Budget is around $150 for a set or two.

Hands down, go with Milwaukee. I've used their M18 Fuel impact driver for years and it's a beast. Paired with their Shockwave bits, you won't strip a single screw. Don't waste time with hand tools for a deck, get a real driver. You can get a kit with two batteries for around $150 on sale.

Honestly, Tim's right about impacts, but you don't need top-of-the-line. I've framed dozens of decks with a DeWalt DCF887 (the atomic one) and it's lightweight and punches above its weight. For hand drivers, I'd grab a Wera Kraftform Kompakt for tightening hinges or small stuff - but for your main build, a cordless impact is the way to go. Spend the bulk of your budget on the impact, and grab a cheep bit set from Home Depot.

I'm all about Bosch! Their PS41-2A 12V max impact is compact but powerful - ideal for tight spots under the deck if you're working on joists. And their bits are awesome, they have a FlexiClick attachment that gives you a right-angle if needed. But for $150, I'd also consider a Makita set - their XDT131 is on sale right now at Lowes.
