Hey everyone, my trusty 18V cordless screwdriver stopped charging. It's about 2 years old, used it a ton. When I plug it in, the charger light stays green (meaning full) but the tool won't start. I tried a different battery I have for my drill and it runs fine, so it's definitely the battery. Any ideas before I toss it? Thanks!

First off, are you sure the battery contacts are clean? Sometimes dirt or corrosion can mess with charging. Also, check if the battery gets warm when you leave it on the charger? If it stays cold, the charger might not be detecting it. Could be a dead cell too. Don't mess with the battery pack unless you know what you're doing – lipos can be dangerous. Probably cheaper to buy a new battery than repair it.

I'd try a deep discharge cycle first – run the screwdriver until it stops, then charge it fully. Sometimes the battery management system gets out of whack. If that doesn't work, check if the battery terminals are pushed in. Some brands have a reset button on the battery? Also, don't just buy a new battery yet – check if the charger itself is bad. Borrow a charger if you can. New batteries are pricey these days.

Been there. Likely one of the cells died. I've taken apart a few packs and replaced individual cells, but it's a pain and not for everyone. You need a spot welder and some skill. For a 2-year-old tool, I'd say just get a replacement battery. Check Amazon or eBay for compatible ones. And remember, always store batteries partially charged, not dead or full. Extends their life.
