DeWalt vs Makita Impact Drivers: which one's worth the cash?

Alright folks, I'm in the market for a new impact driver. I've been using a DeWalt 20V for years but I've heard Makita's sub-compact is a beast. For those who've used both, which one holds up on the job? I'm talking daily abuse, dropped from ladders, that sort of thing.

I've got both on my truck. My Makita XDT16 has been through hell and back. It's got insane torque and the battery life is solid. But honestly, the DeWalt 887 is lighter and feels more balanced for overhead work. If you're mostly doing decks and framing, Makita all the way. But for all-day on the ladder, I'd grab the DeWalt.

I'm not a carpenter, I'm a plumber, but I use these things daily. I've seen both brands get thrown in toolbags, dropped in water, you name it. The Makita's chuck seems to hold bits better, less wobble. But the DeWalt's variable trigger is smoother for delicate stuff like reassembling fixtures. Honestly, you can't go wrong. Just get the one that feels right in your hand.

Haha, that's one way to test drive! Just make sure your wife doesn't see both on the credit card statement. But yeah, you can't go wrong with either. Check the current deals, sometimes you get a free battery with the Makita, that's always a win.
