Dropped my screwdriver from the roof - still works! What's your 'abuse and survive' story?

Hey folks, had a wild one yesterday. Was up on a second-story roof patching some flashing, had my trusty Klein 11-in-1 in my back pocket. Slipped on some wet shingles, took a tumble, and watched that driver bounce off the gutter, hit the concrete driveway, and skid into the grass. Thought for sure it was toast - the handle was scuffed up bad and the bits were rattling inside. But you know what? Still works perfectly! All the bits lock in tight, no wobble in the shaft. Makes me wonder what other tools out there can take a beating. Anyone else have a 'abuse and survive' story with their screwdrivers?

Klein makes solid stuff, but that's nothing. Back in '08, I left a Wera insulated driver on a steel beam during a winter job. Found it three months later buried in snow and mud. Cleaned it off, still passes the dielectric test. If you want real durability, go German or Swiss - Wiha, Wera, PB Swiss. The cheap big-box store stuff would've shattered in your scenario. Pro tip: always check for hairline cracks in the insulation after a drop, especially if you're doing electrical.

lol Tim always with the high-end recommendations! My HVAC crew abuses tools daily. Had a Milwaukee demo driver fall into a condensate drain pan full of acidic gunk last week. Fished it out, hosed it off, and it's still zipping screws like new. But I did kill a cheapo driver once by using it as a pry bar on a stuck access panel - snapped the tip right off. Betty, glad you're ok from that fall! Roof work is no joke.

Thanks Patty! Yeah, I'm sore but fine. Tim - good call on checking for cracks, I'll give it a closer look. The Wera stuff does look nice but my Klein has been through drywall mud, paint spills, and now a 15-foot drop. Maybe I'll upgrade if this one ever dies, but it's becoming my zombie tool - just won't quit! Anyone try those 'indestructible' screwdrivers from brands like Trusty Cook or Mayhew?

Mayhew makes good pry bars and punches, but for drivers, stick with the dedicated tool companies. The alloy and tempering matter more than marketing claims. If you really want indestructible, get a Snap-on hard handle - they warranty them for life, even if you run them over with a skid steer. Seen it happen. But at $30 per driver, they're an investment.
