Just got a new face shield after a grinding disk exploded on me last week. Lucky I had safety glasses on but my cheeks got peppered with tiny bits. Get a proper shield folks, not worth the risk.

Dude, that's scary! I usually just wear safety glasses but I've been thinking about a shield. What brand you get? I'm looking at the 3M Speedglas.

I use a full face shield plus a respirator when grinding. Had a near miss with a wire wheel once, never again. Also check that your shield is rated for impact, some cheap ones are just for splash.

100% agree with PPE. I'll add: inspect your face shield for scratches that can weaken it. And don't forget ear pro! I use foam plugs under my muff when grinding, you lose hearing easy.

@PowerToolPete12 I got the Elvex HS-450, good value. @GearHeadGary468 yeah mine has the impact rating stamped. @MakitaMike670 solid point about hearing, I double up too. Safety first bros.
