Best tool for building a deck? Need advice for first-timer

Hey all, I'm about to tackle my first deck build (12x16) and I'm looking to invest in some tools. I've got the basics (circular saw, drill) but I want to make sure I get the right specialty tools. Should I get a miter saw or a radial arm? And what about a nail gun vs screws? I'm on a budget but want quality. Appreciate any input!

For a deck, I'd go with a compound miter saw - that thing will make your cuts perfect and it's versatile for other projects. Radial arm is obsolete for most. And definitely get a framing nailer! It'll save you hours. I just did my shed with one and it's a game changer. Don't forget to rent a compressor if you don't have one.

Bob's right about the miter saw, but I want to add that you should get one with a laser guide if you can - it's a lifesaver for precision. For fastening, I'd actually recommend screws over nails, especially if you use coated deck screws. They hold better and are easier to remove if you make mistakes. And for the nail gun, get a 15-guage angled finish nailer for the joists if you're working alone, else a framing nailer is fine. Remember to account for stringer and beam sizes.
