DeWalt vs Makita for 18V oscillating multi-tool - which one is better?

Hey everyone, I'm in the market for a new oscillating multi-tool. I've been a DeWalt guy for years but I'm hearing good things about Makita's 18V. I mainly do trim work and some remodeling. Which would you pick and why? Also, is the DeWalt Atomic series any good? Thanks in advance!

Safety inspector here. Both brands are solid, but I've seen more DeWalt multi-tools come through job sites with loose blade changes. Makita's tool-less system seems to hold up better. Just make sure you're using the right blade for the material and wearing eye protection. Also, check the vibration rating - Makita usually has lower vibration, which is easier on the hands.

I've used both. Makita's oscillating tool is smoother and the battery lasts longer in my experience. But DeWalt has better accessory availability at big box stores. If you're already invested in DeWalt batteries, stick with them. The Atomic series is compact but less powerful, so for trim work it's fine. I retired from carpentry and Makita was my go-to for finish work.

Thanks guys. I do have a bunch of DeWalt batteries already, so that might be the deciding factor. But the vibration thing is a good point - my hands aren't as young as they used to be. SparkySam, do you find the Makita blades are more expensive?

Makita blades can be pricier, but they last longer if you don't force the cut. Also, consider getting an adapter so you can use other brand blades. Just don't mix voltages! Stay safe.
