DeWalt vs Makita for Cordless Circular Saws: Which One Rocks?

Hey guys, I'm about to drop some cash on a new cordless circular saw for my side jobs. I've been going back and forth between the DeWalt 20V Max and the Makita 18V LXT. I mostly do framing and deck work, so I need something that can rip through 2x4s all day. Anyone have experience with both? Which one would you pick?

Honestly, you can't go wrong with either, but for pure power and build quality, I lean Makita. Their 36V (18Vx2) saw is a beast, but the single 18V model is no slouch. The blade is on the left (if you're right-handed), which some people like. DeWalt is great too, but I feel like their saws are a bit heavier and the shoe could be sturdier. Check the specs on the motor and blade speed. Also, look at the depth of cut adjustments - Makita's is smoother.

I've been in the trades for 40 years, and I've used everything. For a circular saw, I actually like the feel of the DeWalt in my hands, especially for prolonged cutting. The sawdust blower on the new models is a godsend. But here's a tip: don't just look at the saw, look at the whole system. If you already have batteries in one brand, stick with that. If not, try them out in the store. I've seen guys kill a cheap blade and blame the saw, so get a good blade too.

I'm a collector, so I own both. The Makita has a slightly higher RPM and the brake engages quicker. But the DeWalt has a better depth adjustment. I'd say if you're going to be using it every day, the Makita is more durable - I've dropped mine a few times and it's still accurate. For weekend jobs, the DeWalt is fine.
