Alright guys, I need some real-world input. I've been using Milwaukee for years, but my crew is expanding and I'm looking at either DeWalt or Makita for our new impact drivers. I've heard good things about both, but I want something that can handle daily abuse. Thoughts?

Rick, I've restored a few old houses and used both. DeWalt's DCF887 is a beast for heavy framing, but Makita's XDT16 has better control for delicate work like cabinet hinges. If you're doing a mix, maybe get one of each? Lol.

Don't forget about safety! Makita's XDT16 has that electronic brake that stops the bit faster, which is nice for avoiding kickback. DeWalt's is good too, but I've seen more accidental starts with the switch design. Check the torque settings too.

Sam, I do a mix of framing and finish work, so maybe I need both? But Will brings up a good point about safety. Is the brake on the Makita a big deal? I don't want my guys getting hurt.

Will's right, the brake is clutch. I used a DeWalt once and the bit kept spinning after I let go—almost drilled into my thigh. So yeah, Makita for safety, but DeWalt for raw power. If you're on a budget, go Makita for the features.
