Found a Ridgid Oscillating Multi-Tool for $59 – Worth It?

So I was at the big box store today and they had this Ridgid JobMax oscillating multi-tool on clearance for $59 (normally like $129). I mostly do car stuff, but I've been needing to cut some drywall and trim around the garage. Is this thing worth picking up? I've heard mixed things about the JobMax line. Any of you guys used one?

For $59 I'd grab it in a heartbeat. I've had one for about 2 years now. It's not the most powerful thing out there, but for the price it's a solid beater. I've used mine for plunge cuts in drywall, cutting door jambs, even some light metal cutting with the right blade. The quick-change mechanism is a bit funky compared to the star lock ones, but you get used to it. Just make sure you get some decent blades, the ones that come with it are garbage.

Yeah, what Pete said. For that price, it's a no-brainer. I've been using mine professionally for 4 years, doing everything from cutting baseboard to scribing. I will say, the motor is a bit weak for heavy demolition, but as a general purpose tool, it's fine. One thing to check: sometimes the detent for the blade angle wears out, so the blade can slip. If you get a good one, it'll last. But at that price, even if it dies in a year, you got your money's worth.

I'm a restoration guy, so I need a tool that can handle detailed work without nicking the good wood. The JobMax is decent for that, but I actually prefer my Fein for that kind of stuff. The Ridgid vibrates more, which can be a pain for long cuts. But for rough stuff and general DIY, it's a great deal. Plus, Ridgid has that LSA if you register it. Just make sure you keep the receipt and register within 90 days, otherwise it's a hassle.
