Hey guys, my Makita 18V hammer drill stopped working mid-use. Tried charging the battery but charger shows no light or error. Battery is a few years old, but it was working fine before. Any tips?

Steve, could be the charger or the battery. Have you tried another battery on the charger? If it's just that battery, maybe the cells are toast. Sometimes they just die after a few years.

I had a similar issue with my Makita. Turned out the charger had a bad capacitor. If you're handy with a multimeter, check for voltage output. Also clean the contacts on the battery and charger with rubbing alcohol.

Agreed on checking contacts. Also, some Makita chargers have a reset button or require you to insert the battery firmly until it clicks. If it's a Li-ion battery and it's fully dead, the charger might not recognize it. Try leaving it on the charger for 10-15 mins even if no lights, sometimes it wakes up.

Thanks all! Tried another battery - works fine, so it's the battery. Cleaned contacts, no luck. I think it's dead. Time for a new one. Appreciate the help!
