So I was at a garage sale this weekend and found a Fein Multimaster (the corded one, not the new model) with a bunch of accessories. The guy said it was his dad's and he never uses it. I talked him down to $80. I know these things are normally $300+. Is it a good buy? I do a lot of DIY projects and have been using a cheap oscillating tool from Harbor Freight that's ok but dies on me. Should I splurge on this or stick with my cheap one?

Dude, that's a no-brainer! Fein is the gold standard. That thing will last you forever. I've had mine for 15 years on the job site, beat it to hell, and it still runs like new. $80 is a steal. Even if the motor burns out, you could sell the accessories for more than that on eBay. Jump on it!

I'm a bit of a budget buster, but even I'd say grab it. The Fein cuts way smoother and is way more precise than my cheap one. The variable speed and the low vibration make a huge difference. I've used a friend's and it's night and day. Plus, with the money you save, you can buy some nice blades. I say go for it, but make sure the brushes are good and the cord isn't frayed.

Thanks guys! I'm going back tomorrow to grab it. The guy said he'd hold it. Appreciate the advice. Now I'm excited to try it on my next project - thinking of cutting some notches in some baseboards for a floor install.

Ha! That's the same thing I use mine for most. You're gonna love it. Don't forget to post a pic of the tool when you get it. And if you're looking for blades, the Fein blades are pricey but worth it. Get the carbide ones, they last forever.
