Hey fellas, found this at a pawn shop. Mafell KSS 300, looks almost new, came with the original case and two extra blades. They wanted $300, I haggled down to $250. I know these things retail for like $800+ but I've never used one. Is it worth keeping or should I flip it? I do mostly rough carpentry, not a lot of fine finish work.

Yo Gary, that's a steal if it's real! The KSS 300 is a precision beast - 0.1mm depth adjustment, perfect for dadoes and tenons. But it's a niche tool. If you're not doing cabinet work or fine joinery, you might not use it much. Check the arbor for play and make sure the blade runs true. Could be a diamond in the rough.

Nice find! I've restored a couple of these. Parts are pricey but they're built like tanks. At $250 you could resell for $500 easy. But if you keep it, you'll find excuses to do finer work. I'd say keep it and learn to use it - you'll be surprised what you can do. Just be careful with the manual, the plunge mechanism is tricky.

Thanks guys. Tim, I checked it, no wobble, runs smooth. Dave, maybe I'll keep it. I got a bookshelf project coming up. Any tips on blades? It came with a 60-tooth and a 24-tooth. The 60 looks like it's for plywood?

Yeah, 60T for clean crosscuts in ply and melamine. 24T for ripping solid wood. Mafell blades are top notch but any 8-1/4" blade with a 20mm bore works. If you're doing the bookshelf, use the 60T with a zero-clearance insert - you'll get razor edges.
