Just scored this beast of a rotary hammer drill - what should I break first?

Hey Tool Discount Club fam! Just unboxed my new Bosch Bulldog Xtreme rotary hammer drill and I'm stoked! Got it on a flash sale last week and it finally arrived. This thing feels SOLID - way heavier than my old cordless. Comes with a case, three bits, and the anti-vibration handle. Already charged the battery and did a test run on some scrap concrete in my garage... let's just say my neighbors probably heard it lol. What should my first real project be? Thinking about mounting some shelves in my basement wall, but open to suggestions! Anyone else have one of these?

Nice score OP! I've been eyeing that model but my wallet said no way haha. For a first project, maybe start small? I tried drilling into my foundation for a French drain last year with a cheap hammer drill and it was a disaster - ended up renting one from Home Depot. Those Bosch ones have way more power than you think. Maybe practice on some cinder blocks first? Also check if your basement walls are poured concrete or block - makes a big difference with the bits you need. Let us know how it goes!

Rotary hammers aren't toys. That Bosch will go through 4000 psi concrete like butter if you use the right bit. For shelves: use wedge anchors, not tapcons. Drill clean holes, blow out dust, set anchors properly. Don't overtighten or you'll strip the concrete. And wear ear pro - tinnitus ain't fun. If you're drilling overhead, get a vacuum attachment or you'll eat concrete dust all day.

Sweet tool man! I use a similar model for drilling into slabs for toilet flanges and shower pans. That anti-vibration is no joke - my hands used to tingle for hours after a big tile job. For your basement: make sure you're not hitting rebar or electrical. Get a cheap stud finder with AC detection. And if you're going into block walls, use the hammer-only setting first to get through the face, then switch to rotary hammer for the web. Post pics when you're done!
