Just scored a Milwaukee M18 Fuel Rotary Hammer - what should I break first?

Hey Tool Discount Club fam! Just pulled the trigger on a Milwaukee M18 Fuel Rotary Hammer (the 2712-20) with the HD promo kit. This thing is an absolute BEAST - way quieter than my old corded one and the anti-vibration is no joke. Already charged up two 5.0 batteries. I'm itching to use it but my wife says I can't just go drilling random holes in the foundation "for fun." What's a good first project to break it in? Or if you've used one - how's it handle concrete anchors?

Nice grab! I got the same one last month during the HD sale. First thing I did was finally install those basement shelves I'd been putting off - drilled into the cinderblock like butter. Pro tip: get the dust vac attachment if you're working indoors, otherwise you'll be eating concrete powder for days. My wife still found dust on the laundry room ceiling somehow lol. For anchors, it's solid but go slow on the hammer-only setting for clean holes.

Wear your damn glasses. Even with the vac, chips fly. We run three of these on roofing crews for fascia anchors - they hold up but the chucks wear faster than you'd think. Break-in project? Drill some test holes in scrap concrete to get the feel. Don't be that guy who blows out a foundation corner because he went full throttle on day one.

Ugh I'm jealous! My corded Bosch is about to retire. For drywall folks - these are overkill UNLESS you're mounting racks to concrete walls (which I just did last week). That anti-vibration is worth every penny when you're doing 20+ anchors. OP - try making a custom tool holder mounted to your garage wall? Drill some 1/2" holes in the slab and epoxy some threaded rod in. Show us pics!

Good for core drilling if you get the attachment. We use em for running lines through masonry walls. Break it in on something simple like a patio block project. And +1 to SafetySteve - that thing will spit carbide at your face if you're not careful. Milwaukee's warranty is solid though - register it online.
