Hey all, I'm about to start building a 12x16 deck this weekend. I need to tighten some lag bolts and maybe adjust the framing. My old adjustable wrench is beat up. Should I go with a crescent wrench or a ratcheting wrench set? Budget is around $50. Thanks!

Hey Dave, for deck work I'd say get a good ratcheting combo wrench set. You'll appreciate the speed and the ability to get into tight spots. Craftsman makes a decent set for around that price. Skip the crescent wrench for anything but odd sizes.

I second Wendy! Ratcheting all the way. I built a shed last year and my ratcheting wrenches saved me so much time. Plus, they're great for when you gotta hold a bolt on the other side. Get a set with both metric and SAE if your budget allows.

Just a heads up, make sure you get ones with a good angle on the box end. I've had some that were too thick to fit between joists. Also, a decent set of combination wrenches (one side open, one side box) is versatile. Maybe look at GearWrench, they have a nice balance of price and quality.
