Hey guys, I'm in the market for a new 1/2" impact wrench. I do mostly auto work on my project car and some light construction. I'm torn between the DeWalt DCF899 and the Makita XWT08Z. I've heard DeWalt has more torque but Makita is lighter. Anyone have experience with both? I'm not a pro, just a weekend warrior.

Bob, I use DeWalt at work every day. The DCF899 is a beast - we've taken off rusted bolts on old pipes without breaking a sweat. It's a bit heavy but the hog ring anvil is solid. Makita is good too but IMO DeWalt wins on raw power. If you're doing heavy work, go DeWalt.

I'm gonna chime in here. I own both actually. The Makita is definitely lighter and nicer to handle overhead. But the DeWalt hits harder. I'd say if you can find the DeWalt for a good price, get it. I got mine refurbished for $120 and it's been going strong for 2 years. Makita's XDT08Z is more expensive and honestly not worth the extra cash unless you really need the weight savings.

Thanks Paul and Carl! I was leaning DeWalt anyway. I found a combo deal at Home Depot with the DCF899 and a free impact driver. Think I'm gonna pull the trigger. Appreciate the help!
