DeWalt vs Makita Impact Wrenches – Which One's Worth the Money?

Hey guys, I'm in the market for a new 1/2-inch impact wrench for automotive work and light framing. I've been going back and forth between the DeWalt DCF899 and the Makita XWT08Z. Both get great reviews, but I can't decide. Any of you have experience with either? I'm leaning DeWalt because I've got a few 20V batteries already, but Makita's build quality is tempting. Help a guy out!

I've got the Makita XWT08 and it's a beast! The build quality is top-notch, and it's never let me down. I've used it to break loose rusty lug nuts that my old pneumatic couldn't handle. But honestly, you can't go wrong with either. Based on your battery situation, I'd say stick with DeWalt. Battery compatibility is a big deal, and the DCF899 is no slouch. Plus, DeWalt's customer service is pretty solid.

As a pro, I've put the DCF899 through hell and back. It's light, comfortable, and has all the power I need for heavy-duty jobs. I've been on a crew where the Makita had a hiccup with the trigger sticking, but that could be a one-off. If you already have DeWalt batteries, just get the DCF899 and don't look back. You'll save money on extra batteries and charger.

I prefer Makita, not gonna lie. But I'm a Makita guy through and through, so maybe I'm biased. That said, the XWT08 has insane torque – something like 1,200 ft-lbs of nut-busting torque? The DeWalt is close, but I think the Makita edges it out in power. Plus, the build feels more solid to me. But like Dan said, if you're invested in DeWalt, it's a smart move. You can always buy the bare tool and see if it fits your needs.
