Don't Forget Your Gloves: A Wrench Safety Reminder

Hey all, just a friendly reminder after a close call today. Was tightening a stubborn bolt with a combo wrench and my hand slipped off the handle, smacking my knuckles on the frame. Ouch! I was rushing and forgot my gloves. Always wear good fitting gloves when wrenching. It might feel clunky at first but it saves your skin. Any of you have similar close calls?

Ouch! Been there. I've got a $200 set of wrenches and I still manage to bash my hand sometimes. I always keep a pair of those cheap Mechanix-style gloves on my bench now. Also, make sure your wrenches aren't oily – that's a big slip factor. I keep a rag handy to wipe handles.

Good point Dave. But if you're really precise, you don't need gloves – you need proper technique. I always grip the wrench near the head, not the end, for better control. And I position my hand so it would hit something soft if it slips. But yeah, for heavy torque, gloves are a must. I prefer leather-palm ones for better feel.

I only use my Snap-On wrenches – they're so precise they never slip! But jokes aside, gloves are a no-brainer. I got some nice mechanics gloves with gel padding. They're a bit pricey but worth it. Also, if you're wrenching on something sharp, they save you from cuts. Just remember to take them off when handling spinning stuff – they can get caught.

All good advice. And yeah, forget technique when you're under a car in a awkward angle, gloves give that extra grip. Also make sure you don't use gloves that are too thick – you lose feel and might over-tighten. Stay safe out there and keep your knuckles intact!
