Harley Tool Kits: Gone the Way of the Dodo?

Just read this article about Harley not including tool kits anymore. Man, that's a bummer! I remember when my old man's Heritage Softail had a full tool roll with everything you needed for basic roadside fixes. Now they just expect you to call a tow truck? Seems like they're losing touch with the DIY spirit. What do you all think?

Honestly, who carries a tool kit on a bike these days? I mean, I've got a roadside assistance plan that costs less than a six-pack a month. But there's something to be said for being self-sufficient. I always carry a compact set of Allen keys and a multi-tool, even on my newer bike. It's just common sense.

I've got a 2019 Road Glide and it didn't come with a kit. I was kinda surprised, but then again, these bikes are so complicated now, the factory tools wouldn't do much anyway. I've needed a torx set and a torque wrench just to change my grips. But hey, I still keep a small pouch under the seat with the essentials - you never know when you'll need to tighten a loose mirror or something.

As a tool collector, I think it's a shame. I've got vintage Harley kits from the 70s and they're works of art - the leather roll, the nickel-plated tools. But I get it from a business perspective: reducing costs, and most riders don't have the skills or inclination to wrench anymore. Still, it feels like a loss of tradition. At least they could offer it as an accessory option. But I like the challenge of sourcing my own tools anyway.
