Found a killer deal on GearWrench flex-head wrenches at Harbor Freight - too good to be true?

Hey guys, just swung by Harbor Freight to grab some tile spacers and saw they have the GearWrench 8-piece flex-head ratcheting wrench set on clearance for $39.99. Normally goes for like $120+ at the big box stores. Boxes looked a bit dusty but seals intact. Anyone have experience with these? I'm tempted to grab a set for backup in the truck but worried they might be junk at that price. Thoughts?

Sid, that's actually a solid find. My journeyman swears by GearWrench for budget stuff that still works. We've got a set in the gang box that's held up for 2 years of daily abuse. At $40, you're basically paying disposable tool money for something that'll last. Only thing - check the flex joints for slop before you buy. Sometimes the display models get manhandled.

Whoa, that's less than I paid for my Husky set! Do they have metric too or just SAE? Might run over there after work. My DIY projects keep needing weird sizes my cheap set doesn't have. Are these the ones with the little direction switch on the head? My kids always flip it when I'm not looking lol

Rick - they had both metric and SAE but the metric boxes were pretty picked over. Yeah they've got the little lever. Matt's right about checking the joints, the one I opened had a tiny bit of play but nothing crazy for the price. Gonna snag one for myself and maybe one for my brother-in-law who's always borrowing my good wrenches.

Pro tip: if the joint is stiff, a drop of 3-in-1 oil will loosen it up. Don't use WD-40 - it'll dry out and get gritty. And Rick, if you're just doing occasional stuff, these will outlive your deck project. Just don't use a cheater pipe on 'em like our site sparky does with everything.
