Torque wrench acting up - stalling and weird noise? HELP!

Hey guys, having a weird issue with my trusty torque wrench. It's a click-type, not battery, but lately when I'm tightening bolts it stalls then makes this odd grinding noise. Almost like it's slipping. Any ideas? I've had it for years and don't wanna replace it if I can fix it. TIA!

Grinding noise on a torque wrench? That's not good. Could be the internal mechanism is worn. Have you ever dropped it? Even a small drop can throw off calibration. Also, are you storing it at the lowest setting? If not, the spring can weaken over time. But the stalling part is weird for a manual wrench... unless you mean it's not clicking smoothly? More details needed.

Yeah, I had a similar thing with my old Craftsman. Turned out the ratchet mechanism was gunked up with sawdust and old grease. Took it apart, cleaned it with brake cleaner, re-greased, and it was good as new. But if it's stalling, maybe the pawl is worn? Could be time for a rebuild kit if available. What brand/model?

It's a Precision Instruments 3/8" drive. Never dropped it, but I have been using it a lot on a engine rebuild. Maybe I over-torqued it? I'll try cleaning it first. Any tips on disassembly? Don't wanna mess up the calibration.

Precision Instruments are solid. Disassembly is tricky; you'll need a torque wrench tester to recalibrate after. If you're not comfortable, send it to them. But if you're DIY-ing, take lots of photos, and don't lose the tiny springs! Also, check the square drive for wear. If it's rounded, that can cause slipping. Good luck!
